Ultrabooks are what the Ipad was to the Iphone but in reverse. With the Ipad, build on the same platform as the IPhone; one could watch movies or a much bigger and better display. Indeed the Ultrabooks are pushing the size of the laptop closer to the tablets such as Ipads. With Ultrabooks you can do what you could with a laptop but on a much lighter, thinner device. We think that Ultrabooks will become more popular than Laptops in the near future.
For many people the question is what are the main differences between Ultrabooks and laptops? Laptops are portable “pc”s varying from size from 11 inches to 20 inches. They weigh between 3 pounds to 20 pounds. The most popular ones are 15 and 17 inches such as the Macbook Air and Macbook Pro. They have enough punch to run games and other multimedia content
Ultrabooks are thinner and smaller with displays of 11 inch to 13 inches. They are powerful enough and portable. They go from sleep to awake in an instant thanks to their Intel Sandy Bridge processors. Most of the popular 15 and 17 inches currently feature this Intel processor ( core i5 and 17 chipsets) Their batteries last much longer than Laptops about 6 or 7 hours compared to laptops batteries which last 3 to 4 hours.
However there are some things that they don’t have which Laptops do. They don’t have optical drives and instead have Solid State drives (SSDs).However most of the features of Ultrabooks such as the ports and connectivity options are those that you are used to in your laptop. The display resolution is pretty much the same.
Practically, with a few exceptions which will be detailed later on, all the features found on Ultrabooks are or can be found on classic laptops as well. However for CPU intensive tasks such as playing vide games the Laptop comes on top. This is because Ultrabooks have integrated graphics which notebooks have dedicated graphics.
Bottom line- the Ultrabook is lighter Laptops than has as many features as the laptop. Most of the Ultrabooks weigh about 3 pounds and some as lighter as 2.4 pounds. In comparison many laptops are bulky and not pleasure to travel with.
Many Ultrabooks come with glossy display while many Laptops have matte screens. The Toshiba Z830 Ultrabook will have anti glare screen which should make it comparable to regular laptops.
As for prices, the Ultrabooks cost more from around $1000 to $1500. Regular laptops have a wide range that is suitable for all budgets from $300 all the way to $2000.
While Ultrabooks may not be Laptop killers as some have said – they come with distinct advantages especially fro frequent travelers. It can also be said that the Ultrabooks are not necessary competing with the Laptop but for that segment of consumers fro whom portability is very important.
